[မႄးထတ်း | မႄးထတ်းငဝ်ႈငႃႇ]- ↑ /ˌkætmænˈduː/ (),[4] Nepali: काठमाडौँ, Newar: 𑐫𑐾𑑃 𑐡𑐾𑐫𑑂 / येँ देय्; officially the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (Nepali: काठमाडौँ महानगरपालिका, Newar: 𑐫𑐾𑑃 𑐩𑐴𑐵𑐣𑐐𑐬𑐥𑐵𑐮𑐶𑐎𑐵 / येँ महानगरपालिका). The city is named after the Kasthamandap temple, a 16th-century structure built entirely of wood from a single tree, located in the historic Durbar Square, which itself derives from the Sanskrit words kāṣṭha ("wood") and maṇḍapa ("pavilion").
