This template marks the status of a template as one of five levels:

• {{Template rating|pre-alpha}}
• {{Template rating|alpha}}
• {{Template rating|beta}}
• {{Template rating|release}}
• {{Template rating|protected}}

All parameter values are case-sensitive.

• prealpha and pa are aliases for pre-alpha.
• a is an alias for alpha.
• b is an alias for beta.
• r, general and g are aliases for release.
• protect and p are aliases for protected.

It also adds the template to one of five categories (unless the parameter nocat is set to true):

• Category:Templates in pre-alpha development (0)
• Category:Templates in alpha (0)
• Category:Templates in beta (1)
• Category:Wikipedia template-protected templates (0)
